Why not forever? The power of a bequest.
By leaving a gift in your will to NIDA, you will be supporting future generations of talented, creative Australians working in the performing arts.
A bequest is a gift in one’s will that is left to a specific beneficiary. Creating a will ensures that your wishes are respected and that those you ultimately want to benefit, will receive your support.
“A bequest to NIDA will guarantee support for generations of future NIDA students focused on careers in the performing arts. I received tremendous support as a NIDA student, that has led to a very happy 50-year career within the national and international creative arts communities.”
– Dr Peter Cooke AM PhD, NIDA Foundation Trust Member, (NIDA Bachelor of Dramatic Art, 1972-1974)
NIDA has an Endowment Fund managed by the NIDA Foundation Trust, which is a permanently held capital fund, established to support the training and educational mission of NIDA.
The Endowment Fund enables the Trust to direct donations to important education activities and initiatives that would otherwise not be supported by NIDA’s core government funding:
Scholarships and Fellowships
- Scholarships and Bursaries for students.
- International placements and secondments for students.
- Awards and Fellowships to support Alumni advancing their careers in the performing arts, like the Freddie J. Gibson Fellowship.
- Professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Productions
- Production funds to enrich the Student Production seasons. For example, the Nick Enright AO Bequest has supported guest mentors and the Opera co-productions with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
- Commissions of new Australian works like Alice: Mother of Cinema which was supported by the Frederick J Gibson Bequest and co-produced with the National Theatre of Parramatta.
General
- Community outreach and access programs, including NIDA’s First Nations program.
- Enabling and sustaining capital infrastructure including upgrading our theatres, equipment and teaching facilities.
- Enhancing and developing NIDA’s tech and innovation capabilities including the NIDA Future Centre.
- Supporting NIDA’s environmental sustainability program through NIDA Green.
How to make a bequest
Bequests can be made through your will by gifting:
- A specific asset (shares, property, art, etc)
- A specified sum of money
- A portion or percentage of an estate
- A life insurance policy
You should speak to your legal advisor who can advise you on how to prepare a will to incorporate your wishes, or you may add a codicil to an existing will to include NIDA.
Should you wish that your gift be directed to a specific program, activity or aspect of our work at NIDA, we would recommend you contact us to talk about how best to express this in your will. You are also able to leave bequests unencumbered to be used by NIDA as deemed appropriate by the NIDA Foundation Trust Directors.
The following clause is intended as a guide only for consideration and may assist your legal advisor in the preparation of your will.
“I give to the NIDA Foundation Trust ABN 19 508 938 522 (Specific amount or percentage of estate or describe property or other assets) for use and benefit of NIDA for its general purposes and I direct that a receipt from the NIDA Foundation Trust shall be sufficient discharge of such a gift.”
