Born and raised in Sudan to Ethiopian refugee parents, Bakri Mohamed’s first exposure to the world of film was in Sudan when he watched Charlie Chaplin’s silent film The Kid to be specific. He laughed so hard and found it amusing how Charlie Chaplin would move, and some of the strange predicaments his character found himself in. Growing up in a big family, Bakri shared a bedroom with two of his brothers upon moving to Australia, and they would find themselves entertaining each other late at night by improvising scenes and characters from movies they had recently seen, with the others trying to guess what character or movie it was, and sometimes they would also do improvisations just to make each other laugh. This sensation and joy in playing and performing is what led him to study drama in high school, and it was this ability that his teacher saw and encouraged him to pursue acting as a career pathway.
Bakri took a leap of faith and was accepted into the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts where he studied a Diploma in Stage Acting in 2020, before being offered the opportunity to study at NIDA in the 3-year intensive acting course to further enhance his story telling ability.
Growing up, Bakri was a physical kid and loved to play sports such as soccer, basketball and boxing which he still does to this day.
