The NIDA Board of Directors appointed two new members at its October meeting – alumnus and newly appointed Sydney Theatre Company Artistic Director, Kip Williams, and iconic Australian actor Sigrid Thornton.
Incoming CEO/Director Kate Cherry – who commences her role at NIDA in December 2016 – said she was delighted by the appointments.
‘Together, Kip and Sigrid bring a fantastic combination of talent, energy and experience to NIDA. Kip‘s achievements, since he graduated from NIDA just six years ago, are simply extraordinary. Sigrid‘s experience, not just as an actor and director, but as a passionate advocate and tireless campaigner for the Australian arts, will also be invaluable,’ commented Kate.
‘It’s perfect timing to welcome Kip and Sigrid in a period of dynamic change at NIDA. It is exceptional people, collaborating, that will cement NIDA as a genuine world leader in creative innovation and education in the dramatic arts.’
Sigrid said, ‘NIDA is one of Australia’s most valuable incubators for the dramatic arts – a catalyst for the enrichment of our creative culture. I look forward to contributing to the positive framework that helps NIDA students to reach their highest potential.’
Kip said, ‘I am delighted to have been appointed to the board of NIDA and am honoured to have the opportunity to help shape the future of this great institution that once helped shape me.’
‘As a NIDA graduate, I have experienced, first hand, the extraordinary training the institute provides its students. NIDA has always been at the forefront of innovation in the performing arts, and I am passionate about seeing the school continue to go from strength to strength, and growing its status as one of the leading drama schools in the world.’
Chair of the NIDA Board, Jennifer Bott, AO, said, ‘We are delighted to have these two outstanding arts industry leaders to add to the skills and talent on the NIDA Board, as we also welcome our new CEO/Director, Kate Cherry, to the role. It’s such an exciting time for NIDA.’
Ms Bott also acknowledged the retirement from the Board of both Stephen Armstrong and Ralph Myers, after two and four years of valuable service, respectively.
‘Weare extremely grateful for the contribution Stephen and Ralph made to NIDA and thank them for their insights, experience and support for this extraordinary institution,’ she said.
