NIDA’s leadership in the design sphere was once again highlighted at the annual Australian Production Guild Awards (APDG), where six students and graduates picked up awards for their stunning work.

Last night, NIDA’s leadership in the design sphere was once again highlighted at the annual Australian Production Guild Awards (APDG), where six of our students and graduates picked up awards for their stunning work. Our various designers made up over thirty percent of the potential design nominations for the award ceremony.
The annual event celebrates the significant talents of design professionals from the Australian film, television, live performance, event and interactive multimedia industries across 20 categories, with three industry recognition awards.
We would like to congratulate all NIDA students and graduates who were nominated for an award and recognised as some of Australia’s leading designers.
The evening was hosted by designer, performer and Oscar-winning animator Adam Elliot (Harvie Krumpet, 2003), and held at Melbourne’s Melba Spielgeltent on Sunday 3 December.
Two of the evening’s major wins went to NIDA Bachelor of Fine Arts (Design for Performance) graduates Charlotte Mungomery (2016) and Genevieve Graham (2016), who are both currently studying a Master of Fine Arts (Design for Performance) at NIDA.
Mungomery won the Short Film or Music Clip Award for her production design for triple j Unearthed Vampires (created while studying at NIDA in 2016), while Graham picked up the NIDA Foundation Trust Emerging Designer Award for Live Performance for her innovative set and costume design for Eurydike and Orpheus, which was part of NIDA’s June 2017 Production Season.

Having so many of our talented designers nominated at such a prestigious awards ceremony demonstrates the strength of NIDA in the design sphere. We are proud of our leadership in design,’ said NIDA Director/CEO Kate Cherry.
NIDA Acting Head of Design for Performance, Julie Lynch, said: ‘We are delighted with the high achievements of NIDA students and graduate at this year’s APDG awards. It is a considerable achievement that NIDA design and technical production graduates have been nominated across a wide variety of design fields, including: screen, live performance and events. This achievement is a testament to the strength and appropriateness of design training at NIDA, and how our training translates into the profession.
