NIDA’s leadership in the design sphere was highlighted at this year’s Australian Production Design Guild (APDG) Awards.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our graduates, students and staff members who were nominated for the awards many of whom won their respective categories.
The APDG Awardsis an annual event celebrating and awarding the talents of design professionals from the Australian film, television,live performance, event and interactive multimedia industries across 20 categories and three industry recognition awards.
It was hosted by actor, director and TV panellist, Russell Cheek, and held at NIDA’s Parade Theatre on Monday, 7 November. The ceremony featured a number of our students and graduates, including newly appointed NIDA Board member and Sydney Theatre Company Artistic Director, Kip Williams, who presented the Emerging Designer Award for Live Performance to current Master of Fine Arts (Design) student Sabina Myers.
One of the major wins of the evening went to NIDA Design graduate Charlotte Lane (2010), who won the Thelma Afford Award for Costume Design prize of $10,000.
An initiative of the late Thelma May Afford an Australian designer, theatre performer and journalist this award was established to promote the further study of theatre, film or TV costume design, in various visual dramatic media, for young matriculating high school art students, students from drama and art schools or professionals wishing to participate in further education in costume design.
NIDA Deputy Director/CEO and Head of Design for Performance, Michael Scott-Mitchell, said, ‘We are delighted at these awards. They are a testament to the strength of design at NIDA and we are pleased to have been successful in so many categories. Our congratulations to all the winners and nominees.’
