NIDA third year Acting students presented their talents in live theatre and screen scenes to a packed Parade Theatre of agents, producers, directors, industry members and family and friends. The showcase was opened by Jenny Bott AO, Executive Chairman of NIDA with a Welcome to Country by Dr Peter McKenzie, a practising artist, lecturer, Aboriginal ambassador overseas, researcher and representative of the La Perouse Aboriginal Land Council.

Jenny Bott congratulated the 22 students from diverse backgrounds on their achievements over the last intense three years.

‘Our graduating actors are entering the industry at a time when there are huge opportunities in cross-discipline environments, in an expanding variety of channels and platforms and a booming entertainment industry in Australia and overseas,’ said Jenny.

‘During their time here at NIDA, these actors have collaborated on no less than seven fully-staged diverse and enriching productions, featuring NIDA alumni and international and national guest directors. They have been taught the foundations of how to create and survive in a highly competitive career. They have learnt both how to collaborate and self-direct, how to engage with a wide range of communities and to initiate their own creative opportunities,’ she said.

Jenny thanked the staff involved in the showcase including John Bashford, NIDA Head of Acting, music arranger Nigel Ubrihien, Veronique Bennett for lighting design, Tim Chappel, guest tutor and Oscar winning costume designer for coordinating and inspiring the costumes, Guy Edmunds and Matt Zeremes for co-ordinating and filming the showreels, and highly respected Director and NIDA Board member Roger Hodgman for directing the Showcase.

She also thanked the support for NIDA from the Australian Government, major partners Technical Direction Company and Canon Australia, our supporters Tempus Two and Kay and Hughes, and the generous individuals who make up our donors and supporters.
