NIDA is pleased to announce that Karilyn Brown, former CEO of Performing Lines, Executive Director of Arts Development at the Australia Council for the Arts, and General Manager of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies, will be Course Leader of our Masters of Fine Arts in Cultural Leadership from 2019.
As CEO of Performing Lines, a national company focused on producing and touring contemporary performing arts, Karilyn diversified programming to include increased Indigenous and culturally diverse artists and productions, and managed the strategic realignment of the company through new modelling and sector development initiatives.

Karilyn has extensive experience in promoting best practice in arts and cultural policy development, arts funding, arts advocacy and public access to the arts, and in implementing strategies focused on presenting and promoting Australian arts and culture internationally.
More recently, Karilyn has also worked as an advisor and consultant for a number of national and international arts companies, including Performing Arts Network New Zealand, The Theatre Centre Toronto, BlakDance, PACT Centre for Emerging and Experimental Art, and Performing Arts Connections Australia.
She has been a board member of ArtBank, Object Contemporary Design Centre, Artspace, Stalker Theatre Company and Australian Performing Arts Touring Alliance, and is currently on the board of Contemporary Asian Australian Performance.

At NIDA, she joins us as Course Leader of Cultural Leadership, which is offered as a Masters of Fine Arts. This unique program is designed specifically for mid-career producers, directors and managers working full-time in the cultural sectors.
Taught by senior cultural leaders working at a high level in the arts industry, the content of the MFA (Cultural Leadership) is tailored to the aspirations, interests and requirements of each cohort, with the learning designed to fit around full-time work schedules.
Karilyn says, ‘Cultural leadership offers a powerful framework for articulating the place and impact of arts and culture in our society, and for expanding the notion of leadership to be more inclusive of and inspired by cultural considerations.’

The Masters of Fine Arts in Cultural Leadership is designed to fit around full-time work schedules, with a program that operates part-time over two and a half years.
