NIDA student Freya Kenay has kicked off 2019 with two huge achievements, performing in OnSTAGE Showcase and commencing a 10196NAT Diploma of Stage and Screen Performance.

Freya Kenay has kicked off 2019 with two huge achievements. After completing her HSC in 2018, she has been selected to take part in the Department of Education’s OnSTAGE Showcase. She has also just commenced as a 10196NAT Diploma of Stage and Screen Performance student at NIDA.
‘I am beyond excited to start my classes at NIDA as I am certain that it will open many more doors for my acting career while allowing myself to grow as an artist. OnSTAGE is just the beginning!,’ said Freya.
OnSTAGE features outstanding drama performances from the 2018 Higher School Certificate at Sydney’s Seymour Centre. Freya created a 10-minute piece of theatre for Year 12 HSC drama with group members at her school Oxley College in Burradoo.
‘Our piece is called ‘?’ and is an absurd take on the exploration of human relationships and trust. The journey of the characters is portrayed using only movement, music and symbolic props. My character is the female protagonist surrounded by another five male actors creating environments and situations with their bodies for my character to explore and interact with,’ said Freya.
‘The members of my group are five other Oxley College graduates: Jacob Sullivan, Cameron Grice, Campbell Demontamas, Lachlan Billington-Phillips and Conor Omeagher.’
‘It is a huge honour for my group as we all put in so many hours to bring our abstract story to life. Performing in such a wonderful theatre is also very exciting for everyone after originally rehearsing and performing in a small high school drama hall. Additionally, it is a wonderful feeling being able to share our hard work with so many people and to be recognised for it; I am very proud of my group!’
