NIDA and the NSW Department of Education (DoE) have joined forces to collaborate on a number of initiatives for the benefit of students of the dramatic arts in secondary and tertiary education in New South Wales.

During this year’s June production season, NIDA supported the NSW Public Schools Drama Company through the provision of NIDA Theatres Parade Studio and NIDA Open workshops as well as tours of NIDA for 121 secondary students from eight schools. The schools include Northmead CAPA High School, Oxley College, Sydney Girls High School, Nepean CAPA High School, Woolooware High School, Georges River Grammar, Sydney Secondary College and Sylvania High School.

‘The schools were thrilled with the opportunity and experience of the day,’ said Executive Director, Public Schools NSW at NSW Department of Education, Jane Simmons.

The event was just part of a host of ongoing collaborations created by NIDA’s current Student Workplace Program and the NSW DoE, which are designed to enhance student learning with specialist NIDA training.

In addition, NIDA is supporting the following 2017 DoE programs and events: NSW Public Schools Drama Company presenting The Pineapple War, NSW Public Schools State drama festival and Schools Spectacular.

The DoE provided workplace learning on the production of The Pineapple War to three Bachelor of Fine Arts Technical Theatre and Stage Management second-year students: Ethan Shephard (Production Stage Manager), Mattison Tabone (Sound Designer) and Corey Potter (Lighting Designer).

Overall, the collaboration and play was a success with excellent attendance and feedback from audiences.
