Want to build confidence in your children and equip them with essential life skills from a young age? Perhaps you’re a young adult who wants to develop skills directly related to social and academic performance?

The young people of Bankstown will, for the first time, have local access to short courses with NIDA Open which delivers drama-based skills training centred on NIDA’s techniques and practices.

Launching at the Bankstown Arts Centre, home to a diverse mix of organisations that are geared towards the development of children and young people, NIDA Open’s Bankstown venue will provide drama classes for grades 36 and 710 throughout the year.

‘Drama skills can play a pivotal role in children and young people’s development, both socially and academically, and therefore this will be a superb opportunity for those aged 815 in Bankstown to not only gain expert training, but also enjoy the fun and creative experience,’ commented Head of NIDA Open, Tricia Ryan.

‘Our courses develop children and young people’s skills in communication, collaboration and problem solving all of which serve as building blocks to their social and academic future.’

‘We’re offering so much more than a potential career in the performing arts industry. And what’s great about our courses is that they’re open to all children and young people they don’t require students to have prior experience in the performing arts.’

Led by industry experts, grades 36 will learn skills in performing arts that focus on personal and creative development, honing in on vocal delivery and helping participants become masters of their physical and performance presence. Meanwhile, grades 710 will practise vocal techniques, and work with language and text in live performance, as well as look at voice and movement techniques to help develop character and performance skill.

Sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 45.30pm for grades 36, and 5.307.30pm for grades 710.

Bankstown Arts Centre is home to an exciting array of organisations including Urban Theatre Projects, Bankstown Youth Development Service, Bankstown Art Society, Bankstown and District Lapidary Club Inc. and Bankstown Theatrical Society whose aim is to help develop youth in a variety of ways.

‘It’s a pleasure to join such a community-focused group of organisations at Bankstown Arts Centre,’ added Ms Ryan. ‘We’re intent on supporting the younger generations of Bankstown to develop their creative potential.’
