NIDA alumni sweep up AACTA awards nominations

NIDA alumni in the film and television industry have been acknowledged for their outstanding work in the 2019 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards nominations.

The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) congratulates our outstanding alumni for their nominations in the 2019 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards. Honouring Australian screen excellence across feature film, television, documentary, short form and online, the winners will be announced at the two major 2019 AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel events, held at The Star Event Centre in Sydney: The Industry Luncheon on Monday 2 December and the AACTA Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 4 December.

Jennifer Kent’s (Acting, 1991) The Nightingale (above) is the most nominated film in the awards, with 15 nominations across every feature film category, including Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Film and Best Supporting Actor for Michael Sheasby (Acting, 2010).

Miranda Tapsell’s (Acting, 2008) Top End Wedding (above) is also nominated for Best Film, as well as Best Lead Actress for Miranda, who is also nominated for Best Performance in a Television Comedy for her role in Get Krack!n.

Hugo Weaving (Acting, 1981) is nominated for Best Lead Actor for Hearts and Bones (above) and Fiona Crombie (Design, 1998) is nominated Best Production Design for The King (below).

Edie Kurzer (Design, 1978) and Anna Borghesi (Design, 1986) are both nominated for Best Costume Design, for Judy & Punch (above) and Hotel Mumbai, respectively.

Essie Davis (Acting, 1992) is nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Television Drama for her role in Best Drama Series nominee Lambs of God. Anna Torv (Acting, 2001) is also nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Television Drama for Secret City: Under the Eagle.

Producers Kylie Mascord (Technical Production, 2000) and Mary Macrae (Technical Production, 1996) are nominated for Best Children’s Program for Drop Dead Weird and Best Documentary for The Final Quarter, respectively.

Richard Roxburgh (Acting, 1986) is nominated for Best Guest or Supporting Actor in a Television Drama for his role in The Hunting, while Kate Box (Acting, 2003) is nominated for Best Guest or Supporting Actress in a Television Drama for her role in Les Norton.

Fiona Donovan (Design, 1992) and Elizabeth Mary Moore (Technical Production, 1991) are nominated for Best Production Design in television for Frayed and Secret City, respectively.

Xanthe Heubel (Design, 2003) and Senior Lecturer Design Tim Chappel are both nominated for Best Costume Design in Television, for Lambs of God and The Masked Singer, (above) respectively.

Margaret Pomeranz (Playwrights Studio, 1973) is nominated for Best Female Presenter (Subscription Television) for her work on Screen.
