The 2023 Make-Up and Technical Services Showcase is a collaboration of NIDA’s Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-up Services) and Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services to showcase their final works before completion of their qualification.
The one-year full time CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-up Services) provides students with important practical training for careers in the stage and screen industries as they delve into make-up design and application, hair styling, creating wigs along with special effects make-up and prosthetics. While the CUA50420 Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services students explore all technical and staging elements, including lighting, audio and vision for live theatre and events.
Each Makeup student showcased their artistic skills by creating two looks, one for screen and one for stage. Olivia Hopkinson created a Frida Kahlo inspired look and editorial Flower girl look inspired by fashion label Moschino’s 2018 Spring Show. Freya Wilkinson displayed a drag look inspired by 90s runway and an ice queen look. Mack Koppers presented an ethereal sea creature and a scarred elven look. Elvi Aaltonen created a mask inspired by Cirque du Soleil and a drag punk look. Lana Mould presented a cartoon inspired character for screen and an animal inspired moth look. Lucinda Beare displayed a broken doll and a fallen fairy. Abbey Hardwick created a painting coming to life and an ethereal alien.
Directed by Kaz Therese, an award winning director and interdisciplinary artist, Kaz, devised a showcase event which truly captured and highlighted the make-up designs of the students. Lighting Mentor David Storie, Production Mentor Angela Cascarino, Audio Mentor Kingsley Reeve, Vision Mentor Bernie Zelvis, and Make-up Mentors Sandra Wograndl and Helen Thatcher, worked together to guide and support students through this creative project. The Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services students managed the event and brought to life, through various production elements, the vision of the director and the make-up students.
The cast involved were Lana Kuti, Bea Doyle, Shakinah Kyalo, Jack Aldo, Tiahna McBride, Al Taylor and Sisi Hu.
