Chairman of the NFT, Mr Peter Ivany AM, welcomed Ms Levy and said her extensive background in theatre, screen and cultural organisations would bring an abundance of highly relevant experience and wide-ranging knowledge to the NFT.
‘Ms Levy is a venerated member of industries directly related to NIDA and the work of the NFT. Her background across entertainment and the arts spanning over 30 years will only serve to enhance our progression,’ commented Mr Ivany.
‘Having worked for some of Australia’s leading organisations and household names in theatre and entertainment, her understanding, insight and connections will prove immensely beneficial to the NFT. That kind of knowledge will be a major factor in contributing to the success of our ongoing campaigns.’
‘Sandra will expertly assist on our continued search in finding new and dynamic ways of generating private support for NIDA’s students and programs.’
Ms Levy is also a member of the Sydney Theatre Company Chairman’s Council and Sydney Film Centre Committee, and has worked with some of Australia’s leading arts and cultural organisations over the past 30 years, including as CEO of the Australian Film Television and Radio School, NSW Cultural Management Committee, Nine Network, Head of Television ABC and the Australian Film Commission Women’s Film Fund.

Chair of the NIDA Board Jennifer Bott AO, who also serves on the NIDA Foundation Trust, added, ‘In the appointment of Ms Levy, we have gained a talented industry leader with skills and experience in areas that are directly applicable to our work. I’m looking forward to her contribution to our fundraising activities, as well as the positive impact she will have on the NFT and the development of NIDA.’
Ms Levy was awarded an AO in 2014 for ‘distinguished service to the arts as a film and television director and producer, and through strategic leadership and educational roles’.
The Trust is an independent body that raises funds for NIDA, particularly for projects and activities not provided for through the institute’s annual Government support or other revenue streams. Currently, the Trust is engaged on a major Capital Appeal for the NIDA Graduate School, matching funds provided by the Federal Government. Alongside this, through strong fiscal stewardship of a large corpus of funds received primarily through bequests, the Trust is able to provide bursary and scholarship support to NIDA students, enabling them to meet the high cost of living expenses in Sydney whilst studying full-time; providing them with opportunities for international learning and training; and support to the student productions at NIDA, which are integral to their education as world-class artists and storytellers.
