Drama with Lane Cove Out of School Inc.

NIDA was thrilled to kick off the year with an invitation from Lane Cove Out of School Inc. (LCOOS) to deliver an Introduction to Drama series of workshops. With our long history of developing customised workshops for schools based on the needs and interests of student cohorts, it was a wonderful way to begin what is set to be a very busy 2017.

Lane Cove story

NIDA was thrilled to kick off the year with an invitation from Lane Cove Out of School Inc. (LCOOS) to deliver an Introduction to Drama series of workshops. It was a wonderful way to begin what is set to be a very busy 2017.

Seventy five students aged five to twelve participated in three workshops over the course of the day. They explored creative play, team-building games and improvised storytelling through a day of fun and fast-paced workshops.

Teacher Alexis Paparoulas explains that NIDA was invited to work with the students to provide an exciting, drama based confidence building school holiday activity. She says LCOOS curates a program of activities designed to challenge and excite the students.

‘The workshops were really engaging and the kids were active the whole time. The teacher was encouraging, working well with the shy kids, encouraging each child to find their own strengths,’ said Paparoulas.

NIDA worked closely with LCOOS to build the day of activities. Tutor Jack Ellis employed scaffolded teaching strategies to create an inclusive and highly supported creative learning environment.

‘The kids took away confidence in their own strengths and abilities. The experience was individualised, promoting a sense of play and creativity in every child,’ said Ellis.

NIDA specialises in working with schools to generate custom-made creative experiences for students of all ages. With an extensive array of resources at hand and working with leading arts practitioners, NIDA Open’s customised courses are world class and available to be delivered all year round.
