This March, Sydney-siders have a rare chance to experience singer and presenter Frankie Armstrong and her unique talents at NIDA’s Kensington campus. On 24 March, Frankie will present a workshop exploring the natural voice and an intimatecelebration of the songs of the great German playwright and lyricist Bertolt Brecht.

The workshop is suitable for singers, actors and performers, choirs and those interested in developing their voice for presentation.It will include demonstrations, participation in techniques, improvisations and singing.

Frankie Armstrong has been singing professionally since 1964. In 1975, she began her pioneering voice workshops based on ethnic styles of singing, where singing is as natural as speaking.

Frankie Armstrong has sung and run workshops all over Europe, in North America and Australia, working with community groups, for theatre companies and festivals, and in a wide range of other settings � from hospitals to the National Theatre Studio, London. She has made 11 solo albums, written her autobiographyAs Far as theEyes Can Sing, and edited a collection of essays (Well-Tuned Women) with Jenny Pearson. Her latest book, with Janet Rogers, isActing and Singing with Archetypes.

Accompanied on guitar, ukulele and violin by Philip Griffin and Jude Iddison, with music by Brecht, Kurt Weill and Hans Eisler, the concert includesthe tenderness ofThe Song of the Little Wind to the heartbreak ofThe Love Market and the harsh defiance of Pirate Jenny.
