NIDA X
NIDA X is a program offering grants to alumni to develop live entertainment projects that push the boundaries of storytelling and technology. NIDA X is supported by the Girgensohn Foundation, NIDA X Patrons.
In 2024, three projects each received $15,000, an industry mentorship and access to facilities and technological support from NIDA.
Meet the 2024 NIDA X Winners
Akos Armont (Acting, 2007) & Aimee Horne (Acting, 2008) | Nadan Hill
Akos and Aimee explored the space between online and live theatre audiences in this immersive theatre experiment that re-imagined the horror film experience. The industry mentor was renowned cinematographer David Knight.
Shakira Clanton (Acting, 2015) | Small Blue Thing
Shakira partnered with Box of Birds to develop a performance utilising interactive, augmented technologies and aerial performance to explore our relationship to our small blue planet from a First Nations perspective. The industry mentor was Ursula Yovich.
Angela Nica Sullen (Acting, 2016; Voice, 2020) | Vital Signs
Angela took her own lived experience to create Vital Signs, a debut solo work that fused medical technologies with live performance to create a thrilling interrogation of the topography and medicalisation of the Black larger body. She worked with director Dino Dimitriades and industry mentor Drew Ferors, Head of Innovation & Training at The Technical Direction Company (TDC).
