ABC’s rage premieres NIDA and triple j Unearthed music video collaborations

On Saturday 7 October, ABC’s rage exclusively revealed seven new music videos resulting from the 2017 triple j Unearthed and NIDA collaboration.

Showcasing the talents of some of Australia’s best emerging artists, the yearly collaboration gives a number of lucky bands and musicians the chance to have a professional music video produced by the next generation of creative professionals.

Among the seven chosen bands are Queensland indie rockers Eliza & The Delusionals, hailed as one of the most exciting up-and-coming bands in the current Australian music landscape.

With just $200 and two days, NIDA’s Master of Fine Arts (Directing) and third year Bachelor of Fine Arts (Design for Performance) students have turned the seven winning songs into elaborate music videos that were played across the country.

A highlight for the NIDA students and the musicians, the project provides invaluable industry experience and a chance to flex their creative muscles.

‘We’ve been collaborating with triple j Unearthed for a number of years, bringing young, inspired creatives together to produce some stunning pieces of work. Our students are challenged to work to strict budgets and timelines, giving them real-world experience and helping them to become commercially aware,’ commented NIDA Head of Directing Dr Egil Kipste.

‘This year we’ve had a great group of diverse musicians, who’ve shown their passion and artistry through their music and solid collaborations. Through this competition, we’re helping to launch the career of some really great artists and directors,’ he added.

Lachlan Macara, triple j Unearthed Executive Producer, commented: ‘It’s an amazing moment for these young artists from triple j Unearthed to see their songs hit the screen on rage and equally so to have such imaginative music videos made for them by talented young filmmakers. The NIDA students did a bang-up job capturing the spirit of the songs they were given.’
