After its launch at the beginning of June, today NIDA Open reveals the carefully selected winners of its 12 scholarship places.
Select scholarships were offered in three Australian cities � Perth, Newcastle and Adelaide � as part of NIDA’s drive to increase access and participation in the arts. Recipients will immerse themselves in NIDA Open’s Spring Holiday workshop program, which offers introductory through to advanced courses for children and young people during the school holidays.
In Adelaide, the grades 8�10 winners are Casey Brown of Willunga High and Caitlin Selge of Mitcham Girls, who will both undertake a four-day NIDA Drama School course. The grades 11�12 winners are Susannah Inverarity of Ocean View College, Taperoo, and Joshua Naspinski of North Adelaide Senior College, who will be given places on two courses � NIDA Acting 101 and Auditions Masterclass. All courses will be held at Adelaide’s Christian Brothers College.
In Perth, the grades 7�10 recipients are Ned Moran and Lee Halley of John Curtin school, who’ve been awarded places on NIDA Open’s Screen Acting Bootcamp and NIDA Drama School courses respectively. Winners of the grades 11�12 category are Poe Myint of Warwick Senior High School and Marnie McKenna of Willetton Senior High School. Classes will be held in Perth’s Subiaco Arts Centre.
In Newcastle, the grade 7�10 scholarship recipients are Grace Forrester of Great Lakes College – Tuncurry Campus, and Fergus Beahan of Maitland High School. For grades 11�12, the winners are Courtney Lawrence of Hunter Valley Grammar School and Emily Lloyd of Kurri Kurri high school.
‘NIDA is giving back to the arts and inspiring creative journeys with our scholarship program,’ said NIDA Director/CEO, Kate Cherry. ‘We want to help young artists develop and send them on their way to reaching their full potential. NIDA Open is the perfect doorway to additional professional development, or simply can be a way to explore an untapped creative side.’
NIDA Open has always acted as a fertile ground for students to grow as artists before going on to develop their career in the performing arts industry. With courses held across Australia, NIDA Open helps young artists discover if they truly want to wed themselves to the performing arts before making a more committed move to undertake more advanced training.
‘NIDA Open is committed to providing strong foundations for the development of young performing artists across Australia, so that they can go on to study with us at a higher education level or find their place in the industry, or even use their skills elsewhere in their day-to-day lives,’ added Cherry.
