NIDA has taken its place among some of the finest creative establishments in Australia with the opening of our new permanent venue, NIDA Melbourne, in the Southbank Arts Precinct.
For more than 15 years, NIDA has been providing short courses from multiple venues across Australia, and the new facility will help us deliver on our national remit by establishing a permanent presence outside of the main Sydney campus.
For our new location, NIDA was accepted as a resident of the Creative Spaces: Guild program � an innovative restoration project from the City of Melbourne’s Arts and Culture Branch that is transforming 1000sqm of vacant retail space into a collection of arts spaces.
‘It’s incredibly exciting to be a part of the Creative Spaces: Guild program in Melbourne. The Arts Precinct is a fantastic place for NIDA to establish a permanent home and re-purpose existing retail space as multi-use arts studios. We intend on contributing a great deal to the arts community here and look forward to developing an enduring relationship with both the arts industry and businesses of Melbourne and the surrounding areas,’ commented NIDA Director/CEO, Kate Cherry.

Central to the venue’s function is the provision of courses and seminars from NIDA Open and NIDA Corporate, and the ability for independent artists, arts organisations and businesses to hire the facility’s unique spaces.
The venue caters for a wide range of interests in dramatic arts, including NIDA Open after-school, weekend and school holiday courses in acting, singing, musical theatre for grades 3�12; and short courses in acting, screen acting, writing and directing for adults.
NIDA Corporate, meanwhile, offers experiential presentation and communication skills training for business people in the form of one and two-day public courses, workshops, seminars or one-to-one coaching.
‘In addition to the array of specialist courses on offer from NIDA Open and Corporate, NIDA Melbourne will enable us to hold auditions and interviews for our Master of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Fine Artsand Vocational Diploma courses each year. This will increase accessibility for those students looking to secure their place at our renowned training facility,’ added Ms Cherry.
There are also venue hire opportunities for the two studios through the Creative Spaces: Guild program, which allows us to further engage and support the local arts community.
