NIDA Open partners with Children’s Book Council of Australia for Book Week

NIDA Open has teamed up with the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) to help early childhood centres celebrate Book Week, with our new program for children aged 35 years, Play Date.

While NIDA is known for its reputable dramatic arts training at tertiary level, we also offer a range of engagement opportunities for early childhood students and teachers.

NIDA Open has teamed up with the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) to help early childhood centres celebrate Book Week, with our new program for children aged 35 years, Play Date. This will take place at NIDA’s main campus in Kensington on Tuesday 22 August, and will coincide with the week-long national reading initiative for children, which runs from 1825 August.

‘NIDA is excited to be partnering with the CBCA to present Play Date,’ commented Schools Program Manager, Maree Freeman. ‘This event will see children experience stories from the CBCA shortlist and engage with some of the newest and best fiction for young people.’

During the workshop, children will experience a morning of creative play, storytelling and design activities all inspired by books from the CBCA’s shortlist. The workshop will see children become authors of their own stories as they build landscapes for storytelling and listen to actors share stories from some of Australia’s favourite children’s authors. Tickets to the workshop are available here.

Earlier that month, on Wednesday 9 August, NIDA Open will be presenting another professional development opportunity for preschool educators, entitled Creative Play for Early Childhood.

‘The Creative Play for Early Childhood workshop is a brilliant personal development opportunity for any preschool educator looking to expand their toolkit. We’ll help them discover how to design creative play and drama activities to develop preschoolers’ skills in communication, collaboration, problem solving and creativity,’ commented Head of NIDA Open, Tricia Ryan.

NIDA Open is currently offering early bird enrolments into this Creative Play course to secure your 10% discount, head on over to the website and book a spot by 11 July.
