Annette Ribbons

Annette has more than 30 years’ experience working on a freelance basis in theatre, television and film as a supervisor, cutter and maker whilst simultaneously teaching for over 25 years in fashion and costume at the University of Technology Sydney 1998-2003, Sydney Institute TAFE 1997-2016 and NIDA since 1992.

Trained in England as a costume cutter and maker, Annette went on to work in repertory theatres throughout Britain before travel interests took her on a working holiday to Hong Kong and eventually Sydney where she has been closely connected to the Theatre and film industry ever since.

She has cut and supervised for companies such as Opera Australia, Bell Shakespeare, Sydney Theatre Company, The Really Useful Theatre Company and Bazmark, and has worked on costumes as diverse as the Hollywood film Gods of Egypt to the stage production of Strictly Ballroom.

Annette headed the NIDA costume department from 2016 – 2021.

Qualifications: Certificate of Art foundation, England; Higher National Diploma in Theatre Wardrobe, England; Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Australia; Certificate II Print and Graphic Arts-Screen Printing, Australia.
