About Lucy
Lucy Jauristo is a Sydney-based Canadian/Australian costume maker and supervisor with a passion for art finishing, prop-costume and historical garment making. Before coming to NIDA in 2019 Lucy completed a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and French at the University of Queensland. Lucy came to costume through a love of research and history which evolved into historical re-enactment.
At NIDA Lucy was able to expand upon her passion for costume making to learn new aspects of the costume world such as supervising, leather work and corsetry. In her third year of NIDA Lucy undertook a self-directed research project to combine her love of prop-costume and historical research. Lucy recreated a set of 14th century brigandine and plate armour using techniques such as leather working, laser cutting and art finishing while taking advantage of modern materials such as thermoplastics, adhesives, and heat-mouldable foam.
Lucy aspires to explore a range of positions within the film and television industry both domestically and internationally and continue to learn and grow as a costumier.
