NIDA acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we learn and tell stories, the Bidjigal, Gadigal, Dharawal and Dharug peoples, and we pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past and present.

Vale Peter Savage

On 28 August, our friend and colleague Peter Savage passed away from cancer.

Peter graduated from the Design course in 1987 then returned and worked at NIDA for over 20 years, first as a casual tutor before moving into his role as Senior Lecturer of Technology and Production until his retirement at the end of 2020.

During his time at NIDA, Peter taught set design, drafting, CAD and model making across multiple courses including Production, Technical Theatre and Stage Management, Design, Props and Set Construction.

‘Peter was passionate about what he did and had high expectations but would support students every step of the way to learn and succeed. Peter knew just the right balance between time to work and time for fun.

Peter was beloved by staff and students. He will always be remembered for his generosity, wisdom, statement t-shirts and odd socks.’

Melanie Dyer,
Head of Stage Management, Senior Lecturer

We invite you to join us in a celebration of Peter’s life on Sunday 13 October from 5pm at NIDA. Please RSVP.
