Vale Alexandra Stamell

The National Institute of Dramatic Art is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Alexandra Stamell (Acting, 2020). She was a valued friend, collaborator, artist, and a source of inspiration to many in the NIDA community and beyond.  Alex’s unique approach to the craft of acting, incisive skill at devising work, creative community building and vigorous energy that she brought to the rehearsal room is how many will remember her, as well as her arresting presence on stage and screen.

NIDA’s Head of Acting, John Bashford shared:

There was something about Alex’s determination and willingness to devote time to developing her craft that set her apart.

She brought her whole self to the work. Playful. Energetic. Complex. She was creative and imaginative. Happiest when collaborating and making new works with her peers, she could dive deeply into classical work and offer surprising insights. She will be cherished and missed in equal measure. Vale Alex.’

Alex will be known to many from her work on screen in Barons (ABC), Nine Perfect Strangers (Prime Video), Erotic Stories (SBS), and her recent stage work Girls in Boys Cars (Riverside Theatres). Alex particularly shone as a collaborator and a performance maker, in shows such as Cool Pool Party and Håmlet (Bondi Festival).

For those who wish to farewell Alex, her Memorial Ceremony will take place 1pm Thursday 22nd August 2024.
