This week is National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, culture and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

NIDA is on a journey towards developing more collaborative initiatives and works with First Nations artists and practitioners, such as the recent First Nations Cultural Leadership Panel led by Lydia Miller and Wesley Enoch, the MFA Directorspartnership with NAISDA, and the collaboration between Costume students and the artists from theBábbara Women’s Centre.

We are committed to developing a strategy over the coming months to deepen engagement with Indigenous storytelling, learning and leadership.

An important step on that journey is the appointment last week of NIDA’s first Indigenous member of the Board of Directors: Dr Sandra Phillips, an esteemed writer, academic, intellectual leader from Queensland and currently working at UTS. We warmly welcome Sandra and look forward to learning from her on our journey.
