NIDA celebrates outstanding students

NIDA held its final school assembly today, and celebrated outstanding students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program with annual awards supported by NIDA’s philanthropic community.

NIDA held its final school assembly today, and celebrated outstanding students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program with annual awards supported by NIDA’s philanthropic community.

The Arna Maria Winchester Award: Awarded to Bridie McKim, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) student in Year 3.

The Hazel Treweek Shakespeare Award: Awarded to two students to encourage their study in Shakespeare. This year awarded to Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) Year 2 student Matthew McDonald and Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) Year 2 student Elyse Evans.

The Laurie Cowled International Placement Scholarship: Awarded to Australian theatre practitioners to gain crucial international experience and to bring back that education and training to Australia. This year awarded to Lewis Dean, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Properties and Objects) Year 3 student. Lewis will, in early 2019, travel to the UK to complete a secondment with Richard Nutbourne Scenic Studios where he will work across opera, musical theatre, television, film and events. He is looking forward to bringing these skills back to Australia and working in a collaborative environment.

The Laurie Cowled International Scholarship for Costume: Awarded to Australian theatre practitioners to gain crucial international experience and to bring back that education and training to Australia. This year awarded to Marnie Perkins, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Costume) Year 3 student, who will be travelling to the UK to work with alumni Edwina James on a feature film ‘Death On The Nile’ or in the West End theatre of London.

The Keith Bain OAM Scholarship for Movement: Awarded to those who excel in movement, judged by experts in movement from external organisations. This year awarded to Timothy Walker, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) Year 3 student.

The Judith Meschke Award: Awarded in memory of NIDA Costume alumni Judith Meschke for excellence in costume-making. This year awarded to Sasha Wisniowski, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Costume) Year 3 student.

The Ken Healey Innovation in Writing Award: Awarded to encourage innovative emerging writers. This year awarded to Rebecca Hurd, current Master of Fine Arts (Writing for Performance) student, who won the award for her submission titled BUS – Break Up School.

NIDA also congratulated: Lucy McCullough who received the Billy Ostadal Scholarship, Nicholas Burton and Chika Ikogwe who each received a BBM Youth NIDA Drama Award this week; Evangeline Samoilov, Josephine Clucas, Felix Hauge and Imogen Bouchier, who were recipients of the Pam Dawson Memorial Scholarships; and Jessie Byrne, recipient of the Peter Ivany Scholarship.
